Abstract

Due to advancing digitalization and demographic changes, it is becoming increasingly
important for companies to understand the needs and expectations of young workers
and to adapt their corporate cultures accordingly to enhance their competitiveness
against other companies. Therefore, it is necessary to identify which aspects of work are
particularly relevant to young workers.
New Work could represent a way to increase job satisfaction among career starters
in the post-pandemic era. The aim of this study is to explore the relationships between
aspects of New Work and job satisfaction among career starters. To this end, the following research question is addressed: “What relationships can be identified between New
Work aspects and job satisfaction among career starters?”
For this purpose, a quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted using an online
questionnaire that assessed ratings of New Work aspects such as flexibility, work-life
balance, autonomy, leadership, further education, and meaningfulness, as well as overall
job satisfaction. Additionally, participants were asked to provide their assessments of the
most important aspects of a good workplace and their desired changes to their current
workplace through open-ended questions.
Data analysis showed that job satisfaction correlated with all New Work aspects
to varying degrees. The aspects of autonomy, leadership, further education, and meaningfulness exhibited a strong positive relationship, while flexibility showed a moderate
positive relationship, and work-life balance showed a weak positive relationship. Participants’ responses also indicated that work atmosphere, salary, and colleagues were
important aspects of a good workplace. The most frequently mentioned desired change
was communication within the company.
