Children and adolescents living in residential child and youth welfare facilities have often experienced trauma and stress in the past. Since trauma care is largely provided by social pedagogues and social workers, traumapedagogical and attachment-based interventions are an essential part of social work. This master's thesis discusses literature to explain common biographical adversities experienced by these young people and presents three traumapedagogical and one attachment-based concept. A described pilot project proves the effectiveness of trauma pedagogy and supports the hypothesis that social pedagogues can contribute to the positive development of children and adolescents with traumatic backgrounds by implementing these concepts. Finally, the master’s thesis discusses occupational hazards that social pedagogues are exposed to and methods of mental hygiene, which are essential to ensure this in the long term.
