This thesis deals with the development and implementation of a Transmedia Storytelling strategy for the indie animated short film mouse.mp4 (2025, Pia Putz et al.). The film is to be expanded with a Transmedia component in order to draw attention to the film project and at the same time immersively expand the narrative storyworld of the film. A particular challenge lies in the tight production schedule of the project, as only limited time, money and personnel capacities are available. The specific question that this thesis aims to answer is whether the use of Transmedia strategies, which tend to be very resource-intensive, is feasible or advantageous for very small indie productions. Secondly, the case study also aims to answer the question of what such a strategy might look like in concrete terms and what potential hurdles arise specifically for small productions. The thesis consists of a theoretical part, which was developed through literature research and which forms the basis for the practical case study. The literary basis for this is provided by the works of media theorist Henry Jenkins, who is a pioneer in the theoretical foundation and definition of the term and concept of Transmedia. Building on this, Robert Pratten’s practice-oriented ActSS Model for the structured development and planning of Transmedia expansion is used to supplement the work with a practical component. The thesis documents the development steps from conception to content and formal design to the practical implementation of the transmedia project for mouse.mp4. The results of this work show that although Transmedia Storytelling tends to be applied in research and practice in the context of large franchise structures, even very small Indie-projects with very limited resources can benefit from the use of Transmedia strategies.
