Student thesis: Master's Thesis

Abstract

With modern technologies, numerous new possibilities have opened up for leading theatre audiences into new worlds and immersing them in a story without leaving the room. The use of holograms and projections offers fascinating perspectives for the theatre. However, opinions differ when it comes to finding the best method to give the audience a comprehensive sense of presence. Despite numerous technical approaches to improving immersive theatre, there is as yet no definitive concept for a piece with holographic elements. This master’s thesis explores how holographic stage elements can change traditional theatre aesthetics and contribute to the evolution of stage design in contemporary theatre. This is done through literature research, expert interviews, and the realization of a project. It is assumed that the use of holograms increases the immersion of the audience and has a positive influence on the design.
