This master's thesis presents a comparative analysis of government-supported export finance and risk mitigation systems in the DACH countries and the Visegrád Group. The aim is to examine and compare the institutional design, the application of key support instruments, and the development of these systems over the period from 2019 to 2023. The focus lies, among other aspects, on structural characteristics, the evolution of volumes and liability utilization, and the identification of potential areas for improvement. Special attention is given to the extent to which global events – such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the energy crisis, and geopolitical tensions – have influenced the use and further development of these instruments. The analysis is based on the assumption that notable differences exist between the two regional groups in terms of institutional stability and operational implementation. The empirical part of the study combines a qualitative document analysis, particularly of annual reports published by national export credit agencies, with expert interviews conducted using a semi-structured format. This methodological approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of both structural characteristics and country-specific strategies. The findings indicate that the examined countries pursue diverse institutional approaches and promotion strategies, reflecting national policy priorities and historical developments. While the DACH countries demonstrate relatively stable frameworks with consistent utilization of available liability ceilings, the Visegrád states show more dynamic adjustments and reform efforts. Across all countries, potential areas for further development were identified, particularly regarding digitalization, ESG integration, and support mechanisms for small and medium-sized enterprises. Based on these findings, six thematic recommendations were developed to support the future enhancement of public export promotion systems. The thesis thus provides a structured overview of current trends in European export promotion and contributes to ongoing academic and policy-related discussions in the field.
