The thesis examines the role of process management in the successful digitalization of companies. The starting point was the observation that many digitalization projects stall or fail. It became clear that technical issues can usually be solved, while human factors are much harder to manage. Aspects such as acceptance, motivation, and communication play a greater role than might be expected at first glance. The theoretical part outlines the fundamentals of digitalization as well as the tasks and functions of process management. It shows that process management mainly creates transparency and structure and acts as a link between technical implementation and organizational change. Success factors such as clear processes, proper documentation, and employee involvement were identified as particularly important. The empirical study, based on five expert interviews, confirms many of these assumptions. All respondents emphasized that technical challenges exist but can usually be planned for. The more critical aspect is dealing with employees, whose acceptance and involvement are decisive for success. Process management was described by all interviewees as a prerequisite and companion for digitalization, as it helps to clarify workflows, define roles, and make changes more transparent. The thesis thus demonstrates that process management does not guarantee success, but it significantly improves the chances of achieving it. While the validity is limited by the small number of interviews and the absence of quantitative data, central patterns and practiceoriented insights were nonetheless identified. Overall, it can be concluded that process management makes an essential contribution to successful digitalization, as it links the technical and the human dimensions of transformation.
