Abstract

This bachelor thesis analyzes the potential of digitalization on foam systems utilizing a rotary table. Digitalization fundamentally alters business processes and workflows, particularly in the manufacturing industry. By integrating digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced sensor technology, foam systems can be operated more efficiently and flexibly. The thesis begins with a detailed description of the functionality of foam systems, emphasizing the specific advantages of rotary table systems. These systems enable seamless coordination of various manufacturing steps and optimize material flow. Combining rotary tables with digital solutions opens up new avenues for process control and monitoring, promising higher precision, quality, and efficiency. The study reveals that digitalization significantly impacts operational processes and vice versa. Given the constantly changing environmental influences, PM must exhibit high resilience to fully exploit the benefits of digitalization. Process flows need to be adapted, supported, and automated by technologies. Special attention is given to the design approval process, which is affected by digitalization. This leads to increased workloads, particularly in the design department of automotive manufacturers, where digital tools are indispensable for ensuring a smooth approval process. However, these tools increase the cycle time per approval. Additional personnel can offset this development and reduce the cycle time. The thesis concludes with a concrete application example: a concept for the automated application of release agents and In-Mold Coatings (IMC) in a foaming process. This concept demonstrates the practical application of theoretical insights and shows how implementing digital technologies can improve process accuracy and efficiency and increase the ability to respond flexibly to market demands. Overall, the thesis shows that digitalization is a transformative force in the manufacturing industry. It offers significant advantages, including improved process accuracy, increased efficiency, and greater flexibility, enabling companies to enhance their competitiveness and meet the demands of a constantly changing market.
