Abstract

Digital transformation is fundamentally changing business processes in companies. This transformation is also altering the perception and use of software, with the aim of rationalizing process steps in business software and thus driving the development of autonomous processes. Artificial intelligence, which replicates human intelligence, is playing an increasingly important role. Digitalization brings with it a wide range of technologies that are gradually being integrated into industrial applications. Companies are using the Internet of Things to connect machines, work centers, and products. This generates large amounts of data that can be processed using big data technologies. Cloud computing enables fast access to these data, while digital assistants support companies in various tasks. In this context, artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly significant. Ultimately, these technologies rely on types of software that handle the control for the system, as well as the communication and the processing. Artificial intelligence is not a recent invention, but it has gained popularity with the launch of ChatGPT in winter 2022. However, companies have been using AI for decades, with machine learning being particularly remarkable. This type of AI is now very reliable, controllable, and capable of completing tasks without human interaction. Companies operate digitally and use software to support their processes. ERP-Software covers the core functions of companies and has also become increasingly attractive for small and medium-sized enterprises. Developments in ERP-Software are moving towards cloud computing, enhanced user experience, and process automation. This thesis provides an overview of how AI and its methods can be used for processes in an ERP-System. Functions and approaches for using AI can be found in all ERP-Modules. These applications take care of individual steps and can automate and connect entire processes, resulting in a significant increase in process efficiency. The integration of AI not only makes work processes faster and more precise but also more effective. As a result, resources are better utilized, costs are reduced, and both the productivity and competitiveness of companies increase.
