Abstract

The ongoing digitalization and automation of warehouse processes are crucial to improving efficiency, transparency, resilience and competitiveness in warehouse logistics. The challenges of existing warehouse processes include the shortage of skilled labour and outdated, manual working methods that increase both process speed and susceptibility to errors. Against the background of the increasing importance of digital technologies for process optimization and increasing productivity in companies, it is becoming more and more relevant for companies to implement these technologies efficiently. These circumstances motivate the creation of an implementation plan for advanced digital solutions. The motivation for this research also arose from the need to digitize incoming goods at Trumpf Maschinen Austria. The aim is to improve the operational efficiency and accuracy of data collection in the incoming goods processes to meet the requirements of modern warehouse logistics and to overcome the challenges mentioned above. This bachelor thesis is divided into the theoretical explanation of warehouse logistics, the digital possibilities in warehouse logistics and the practice-orientated implementation of digital technologies. First, the existing warehouse processes and their challenges are analysed to justify the need for digital technology. This is followed by an examination of various digital technologies such as automation, IoT, artificial intelligence and big data analytics, as well as an in-depth look at identification systems. At the core of the thesis, a comprehensive implementation plan is developed based on an as-is analysis of the incoming goods process. This plan defines the necessary steps for the successful introduction of digital technologies and considers both technical and personnel aspects. The added value of the work is the implementation plan developed for the introduction of digital technologies in the incoming goods process. This serves as a conceptual basis that, when applied, enables the efficient implementation of digital technologies, whereby the challenges of warehouse processes described above can be overcome and the opportunities offered by digital technologies can be utilized. The plan determines concrete steps for using technologies such as RFID and barcode scanners to speed up data capture, improve accuracy and reduce costs by minimizing errors and delays. This approach promises to increase efficiency, transparency and competitiveness, and provides a model that can be adapted for similar applications in other companies. In the long term, the plan should serve as a guide not only at Trumpf, but also in other companies, to effectively implement digital transformation processes in warehouse logistics and establish future-proof solutions.
