The present master’s thesis investigates the nostrification of qualifications for foreign healthcare personnel from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Austria. The focus is on the challenges of this process and the potential impacts on the integration of these professionals. The study provides a detailed analysis of the legal environment, bureaucratic hurdles, and the requirements for German language proficiency. Additionally, it includes a comparison with international practices to identify best practices. The education system and healthcare professions in Bosnia and Herzegovina are examined to understand differences from Austrian standards. The research incorporates qualitative interviews with foreign healthcare professionals to document individual experiences in the nostrification process and their integration. This includes exploring professional integration, social aspects, and identity. Finally, conclusions are drawn, and political and practical recommendations are made to improve the integration of foreign healthcare professionals.
