It is estimated that around 130,000 people in Austria live with some form of dementia (Sütterlin et. al., 2011, p. 6). This number is expected to double by 2050 due to demographic developments and the associated increase in life expectancy (Schneider & Bengough, 2014, p. 1). According to current WHO forecasts, the number of people suffering from dementia will triple worldwide by 2025 (WHO, 2021). Due to this fact, increased attention should be paid to this topic. The aim of this literature review is to provide an overview of national dementia strategies and to compare and analyze them in terms of content focus and funding. The focus of the content and its implementation will be analyzed. Based on this, it should be possible to recognize how successful Austria is regarding the implementation of the dementia strategy. The comparative countries were chosen because Switzerland proved to be very transparent in the preliminary research. The Netherlands came into focus due to the different approaches described in the dementia strategy and Germany may provide interesting impressions as a direct neighboring country.
