Leitfaden zur Bewältigung der Herausforderungen im Kontext einer ERP-Systemmigration am Beispiel der Doka GmbH

Abstract

In today's dynamic and fast-paced business world, ERP systems that operate efficiently and effectively are essential to meet the constantly growing demands. However, migrating to a new ERP system presents significant challenges for companies. These challenges include the risk of data loss, software inconsistency, and resistance to change from stakeholders, as well as potentially altering business processes. This thesis examines the process and challenges of system migration and develops a guideline to support the system migration of Doka GmbH. The first part of this work introduces readers to the world of ERP systems and provides detailed information on various aspects of system migration. Points such as the migration phases, the roles involved, and potential challenges are highlighted. This section uses the SQ3R method to analyze literature sources systematically. In the following step, expert interviews are prepared, conducted, and analyzed using the Kaiser method. The insights from the interviews complement the findings from the literature review and contribute to developing of a guide for migrating an ERP system. The experts agreed that a flexible guide, which does not contain rigid step-by-step instructions, can be helpful. The developed guide addresses the most important challenges accompanying an ERP system migration and is structured according to the different phases of a system migration. Nevertheless, it allows room for individual decisions and adjustments, which is necessary since each organization and each migration is unique. The results of this work highlight the importance of thorough planning and clear decision-making. Furthermore, the importance of the human factor in migration, both in selecting the project team and in the individuals affected by the change, is emphasized. The success of the entire migration project depends on their engagement and acceptance.
