Youth Social Work at Schools (JaS) in Bavaria serves as a vital interface between social work and the educational system. This intersection often gives rise to complex situations, particularly due to the voluntary nature of JaS contrasting with the mandatory structures of the school system. Addressing these challenges requires close cooperation among parents, teachers, and key stakeholders. This study explores the interdisciplinary collaboration between Youth Social Work and Realschulen (secondary schools), using case studies and empirical data from the Herzog-Ludwig-Realschule (HLRS). Through qualitative, semi-structured interviews with students, teachers, and social work professionals, the research examines the opportunities, challenges, and outcomes of this cooperation. Preliminary findings suggest that JaS services are accessed by students from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. This may point to a destigmatization of psychosocial support and a growing recognition of the need for such services. The study highlights the school as both a space for socialization and intervention, advocating for an interdisciplinary approach to educational environments—where students not only gain academic knowledge but also develop essential social and personal skills.
