Motivation and Problem Statement The motivation to write this thesis arose during my bachelor's degree programme. The dm central warehouse in Enns was visited in the first semester. The importance of sustainability was recognised there. There are so many processes that are neither sustainable nor future-proof. Based on this realisation and in consultation with the practical company BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co. KG, the topic and problem of this thesis was formed. The topic of this thesis is Industry 4.0 and the path to effective process optimisation. The problem is based on the needs of the practical company. The aim is to improve the existing processes and resources in terms of Industry 4.0 and sustainability. This is to be calculated on the basis of current data and prepared for future steps. Content Structure and Methodology This bachelor's thesis is divided into a total of six chapters. At the beginning, the theoretical part discusses the basic theory of Industry 4.0, its technologies and the production industry. This ensures a comprehensive understanding of the topic. Building on this, the analytical section analyses the findings in greater depth by applying a maturity model. With the help of the maturity model, an integration of the practical company on the way to Industry 4.0 is finally created. The methodology of the thesis is based on literature research and modelling in order to answer the research questions. The main research question of this bachelor thesis is: ‘How can Industry 4.0 technologies contribute to the optimisation of production processes in a manufacturing company and what challenges need to be overcome?’. The method of expert interviews is used to collect data and answer this research question. The data obtained is analysed using a value stream analysis. The results of the study are presented in the empirical part and critically reflected with regard to the research questions. Finally, the most important findings are summarised and implications for theory and practice are discussed. Concrete Results The analysis has shown that production in the practical company has potential for optimisation in almost all areas. Based on the modelling carried out, the individual Industry 4.0 technologies can be allocated to the areas in order to achieve the optimum improvement in the respective areas. A key result is that the introduction of automation technologies is of great importance for the company in practice. This result emphasises the importance of embarking on the path to Industry 4.0. In conclusion, it can be said that the combination of literature research and modelling provides a comprehensive insight into Industry 4.0 and its technologies. An action plan has been drawn up for the further course of action, which offers the practice company a timetable for the future.
