This master’s thesis investigates how different leadership styles affect the dynamics and performance of heterogeneous teams in the context of globalization, with a particular focus on Austria. A comprehensive literature review highlights the importance of cultural intelligence, adapting leadership styles, and fostering an inclusive corporate culture. It is shown that transformational and transactional leadership styles offer distinct advantages depending on the specific needs and cultural backgrounds of team members. The thesis also explores the cultural characteristics of the five largest migrant groups in Austria—Germany, Romania, Ukraine, Syria, and Croatia—and how these cultural differences influence the effectiveness of various leadership styles. Empirical research findings are used to develop practical recommendations for leaders working in multicultural teams. Limitations of the study include the reliance solely on literature review and the focus on specific countries of origin, suggesting that future research could incorporate empirical studies and a broader cultural analysis. The thesis concludes with strategies to promote effective leadership styles that emphasize cultural intelligence, flexible leadership, and continuous professional development. This research provides valuable insights and practical recommendations for leaders to tackle the challenges of globalization and to maximize the potential of multicultural teams in Austria and beyond. Keywords: globalization, leadership styles, multicultural teams, cultural intelligence, Austria, transformational leadership, transactional leadership.
