    Abstract

This thesis examines strategies to enhance user retention in sustainable shareconomy apps within the fashion sector. Against the backdrop of fast fashion’s environmental and social issues, the study explores how clothing exchange platforms can be designed to promote long-term user engagement while fostering sustainable consumption habits. The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining a systematic literature review with a qualitative content analysis of five apps: Dopplle, RENTR, Shareitt, LOOP Wardrobe, and Lucky Sweater. A custom evaluation framework assessed the apps across seven categories: usability, product variety, gamification, social interaction, sustainability focus, retention strategies, and customer support. The findings highlight that features like intuitive navigation, engaging gamification (e.g., rewards systems), active community functionalities, and a strong sustainability focus significantly enhance user
retention. Based on these insights, the study offers practical recommendations for app developers, including optimizing user experience and fostering a sense of community. By integrating innovative and sustainable features, these platforms have the potential to drive both long-term user engagement and the transition of the fashion industry towards more sustainable practices.
