Abstract
The development of multi-storey residential and industrial construction, especially in timber construction, requires a material-efficient overall concept in order to make sustainable use of wood as a resource. With the rib panel product (glulam ribs in combination with cross-laminated timber panels), Wiehag Timber Construction GmbH is attempting to create an optimum system solution in the area of surface-forming horizontal load-bearing structures using state-of-the-art technology.In order to support the obtaining of the European Technical Approval for rib elements, a design tool for analyzing individual rib panels for Wiehag was created as part of this work. In addition to the main load-bearing direction, the secondary load-bearing direction can also be calculated at the user's request. The holistic view of a rib element with all the associated setting options provides a comprehensive calculation. The Excel spreadsheet program serves as the basis for the design. All calculation steps required for the design are stored in the Visual Basic environment.
The manufacturing process for bonded rib panels is very much tied to the manufacturer-specific conditions. Based on this fact, the ideal adhesive for the production conditions at Wiehag was filtered out in a series of indication tests. The influence of different bonding methods on the results was also considered.
