Abstract
Business continuity management is undoubtedly a crucial tool for being prepared foremergencies, crises or unforeseen business interruptions. Especially in the industryrelated sector, a well-coordinated BCM system is essential. With cybercrime on the
rise, companies need to take appropriate measures. Although there is a wealth of specialist literature and standards about BCM, the question arises as to why so many
companies have not implemented an adequate or effective BCMS. This is particularly
remarkable in the industry-related sector, where the specific characteristics and requirements demand a systematic and well-thought-out approach. A well-functioning
BCM is crucial here to ensure continuous operations and minimize financial losses.
In this thesis, a comprehensive guide to implementing a successful business continuity management system in the industry-related sector was developed. The guide is
based on an extensive literature review and an online survey that provided valuable
insights and data. The guide was then analysed and verified by industry experts to
ensure its practicability and relevance. The paper highlights the need for and benefits
of an effective BCM system in the industry-related sector and offers practical recommendations for implementation. It also analyses which requirements a BCM must
meet, especially in the industry-related sector, and which differences exist to other
areas. The aim is to help companies better prepare for unexpected events and
strengthen their resilience to disruptions.
