Abstract

This master's thesis is dedicated to the development of a concept for leadership development and talent management for the Institut Hartheim. The Institut Hartheim offers services for people with cognitive and multiple disabilities. The human resources production factor is of great importance here. The work emphasises the importance of identifying, promoting, empowering and retaining team leaders who influence both the quality of customer care and the achievement of corporate goals. The aim of the work is to analyse the current status of management development and talent management at the Institut Hartheim and to design a concept that takes into account the specific conditions of the institute and provides a content-related and organisational framework for a future qualification programme. The author uses a qualitative approach consisting of two steps. Firstly, organisational documents are evaluated, which provide information about the existing situation. Next, focus group discussions were conducted with two management levels, comprising team leaders and their superiors. From these two perspectives, knowledge was recorded and assessments on the topic of team leadership were collected. The results show the tasks, responsibilities and challenges of team-integrated managers as well as the assessment of the actual and target status of management development and talent management. Important competences for team leaders are also identified. The discussion of the results sheds light on the current situation of leadership development and succession planning at the Institut Hartheim. Key factors and elements are identified that are relevant for the development of current and future team leaders and for successful succession planning. It also outlines what a concept for leadership development and talent management at the Institut Hartheim could look like.
