This master thesis deals with the topic of conflict work by projects of social work in public spaces. The central points of this work revolve around how and public space is used, how conflicts arise in public spaces and how they can be resolved. For this purpose, basic terms relating to the social understanding of space, public space and its use are first clarified. In the next step, theoretical approaches to conflict work will be examined in more detail. The empirical research for this thesis took place in five different projects and institutions that work with conflicts in public spaces. A total of six guideline-based interviews were conducted in four projects from Linz and Upper Austria and one from Munich. In the final step, these are evaluated using a qualitative content analysis in relation to the research questions.
