This research examines which specific leadership skills are required in the health and care sector in order to successfully integrate international nurses into existing nursing teams. In addition to a literature study, a qualitative approach was chosen through guideline-based expert interviews, which were evaluated using the qualitative content analysis method according to Gläser and Laudel (2004). The results of the interviews confirm known challenges from the literature, such as language barriers and cultural differences, and at the same time produce new insights. The importance of communication skills, conflict resolution skills and strategic integration skills of managers were particularly emphasized. These skills not only support the integration of international nurses, but also promote team building and satisfaction in the nursing team. It was also emphasized that further training and intercultural training further strengthen leadership skills and contribute to a higher quality of care in the long term. Ultimately, the work shows that the diversity of nursing teams, if effectively supported and valued, is an enrichment and improves the quality of care.
