    Abstract

In many companies, purchasing processes are still handled manually or with basic tools like spreadsheets. Yet expectations are rising: tasks should be completed faster, with fewer errors, and greater transparency. Digital solutions offer promising ways to improve procurement, but especially in medium-sized businesses, these opportunities are often underused. Many organizations lack a clear strategy, and new systems are introduced without adjusting workflows or responsibilities. As a result, the expected benefits of digitalization often fail to materialize. Wittur Austria GmbH serves as a representative example of a company facing these challenges and seeking ways to modernize its procurement operations. This thesis begins by outlining what digital tools can offer in the context of purchasing. It introduces different types of systems and explains how they work. The study then explores what companies need to consider when implementing such solutions successfully. The focus is on a case study of Wittur Austria GmbH. The current purchasing process is described and analyzed in detail, with the main focus on the procurement of indirect materialsThis proposed process is compared to the existing one to assess potential improvements. The evaluation focuses not only on time and cost savings but also on how well the new approach fits into daily operations. Organizational aspects and team roles are also considered as part of the overall transformation. The results show that introducing a digital procurement system at Wittur Austria GmbH can lead to significant improvements. The new process saves time, reduces errors, and creates more clarity across departments. It also strengthens collaboration and supports a more strategic role for purchasing within the company. However, successful implementation requires more than just installing software—it demands thoughtful planning, clear goals, and involvement from all relevant teams. The thesis concludes with practical recommendations for putting these changes into action and offers a forward-looking perspective on how digital tools, including artificial intelligence, could further enhance procurement in the future.
