This master's thesis and empirical study deals with the conception, opportunities and limitations of the (re)socialization of open prisons in Austria, as there are hardly any scientific contributions or research in this area to this date. The aim of the research work is to obtain an overview of the various prisons with minimum security in Austria, their concepts, goals and approaches and to categorize and analyze the identified results. This is done with special consideration of the re-socialization of prisoners. In addition, social work in these open prisons are also described. Results of this master thesis are based on qualitative guided interviews with the respective interviewees (managers and/or deputy managers from the open prisons). By creating an overview of the concepts of the open prisons in Austria, the work enables a further discussion of the topic of relaxed enforcement in Austria and offers an overview of the work on and with prisoners in open prisons according to §126 StVG.
