    Abstract

Research results show that in senior citizens care there is an increasing number of problems. Health professionals suffer from physical and mental stress. The reasons for this are, for example, multimorbidity in old age and a falling number of young employees, as well as the high life expectancy of the population, the higher requirements of those in need of care and their family members and the higher demands of trainees. These factors are causing a shortage of health professionals, higher levels of fluctuation and sick leave in long-term care. There have been many technical innovations in the medical and nursing sector in the last years. Nevertheless, the use of technical devices is still very rare in long-term inpatient care even though they could help to reduce physical and mental stress in work processes. This master thesis deals with the question how digital technology and socially assistive robotics can improve workplace health promotion. Robotics devices can potentially improve employees’ health. It is very much hoped that an option will one day be available that integrates care with socially assistive robotics. Potential applications of soft robots include wearable soft robots for health professionals. They function as artificial muscles to provide physical assistance. Robots are expected to play important roles. They can potentially improve patient/user safety and cost effectiveness and they can assist the elderly in various activities and other much needed services. To reach this aim, the author carried out a qualitative study with expert interviews of nursing home managers, political representatives, and the state governor of Upper Austria. In addition, a quantitative main- study for nursing service managers in elderly home care was performed. This thesis concludes with a target-concept for workplace health promotion and recommended action to deploy new digital products and solutions in health care.
