This master's thesis analyses digital planning tools in production planning in Austrian companies. The focus is on the influence of Industry 4.0 technologies and the extent to which these new technologies have an impact on production planning in companies. Industry 4.0 tools are usually observed in the context of production on the shop floor. However, these applications also have an impact on production planning. These new technologies offer a wide range of opportunities to influence flexibility and efficiency in planning. The first part of this master's thesis deals with the theoretical foundations of the topics of digital transformation and Industry 4.0, looking at how the terms are understood and how they have developed. It also provides an outlook on the further development of Industry 4.0. In a further section, the concepts and principles of production planning are explained. The impact of Industry 4.0 on digital planning tools is then analysed. Finally, the thesis includes an empirical analysis to investigate the diffusion of the technologies described above in Austrian companies and to identify challenges and opportunities. To carry out the analysis, expert interviews are conducted to investigate the use of Industry 4.0 technologies in the production planning of companies in Austria. The results of the work show that there are different levels of development with regard to the use of technologies. Although basic applications such as cyber-physical systems and ERP systems are widely used, there are only a few companies that use advanced tools such as AI or digital twins. Nevertheless, Industry 4.0. technologies have been shown to have an impact on the results of production planning and control, affecting transparency, flexibility and efficiency. Overall, this master's thesis provides an overview of the influence of Industry 4.0. and digital transformation on production planning. It highlights opportunities and risks and provides valuable insights for companies with regard to the importance of new technologies. The results emphasize the importance of new technologies for the production planning of companies in order to optimize processes and achieve the company's goals long-term.
