For years, process management has offered a methodical approach to optimizing business processes in companies. The optimization of business processes and the consideration of internal communication is more and more important. Interdepartmental interaction is increasingly presenting most companies with major challenges. Process management offers an approach to avoid such communication problems and to optimize knowledge transfer across organizations. In this thesis, the subject area was examined based on a qualitative literature research and an analysis of the relevant literature. It sheds light on how process management affects internal communication, presenting viable solutions for improvement and illustrating the effects on knowledge transfer. The aim is to derive a recommendation for action on how maintenance departments in the steel-producing industry can use process management and other methods to operate internal interfaces without conflict in the future. The author assumes the existence of process management in the departments to be optimized. The theoretical part of the research provides an insight into the advantages that can be expected from process management. The willingness to change in companies plays just as an important role as recognizing potential conflicts. A transition to the topic of knowledge management provides information on whether interfaces that are affected by conflicts have an influence on knowledge transfer. The possible loss of knowledge due to strongly departmentalized organizational units can be prevented by combining knowledge management with process management. The study shows that effective process management has an impact on communication at crossing points and can have an influence on internal knowledge transfer. Process management and interface management are directly linked, which means that it is difficult to achieve optimization without insight into internal communication. The transparent and active design of processes is therefore crucial. By using a study that examines communication, the author has succeeded in substantiating the interpretation of the literature.
