The issue of employee retention in hospital care is becoming increasingly important as companies increasingly recognize that retaining highly qualified employees has a decisive influence on long-term success and competitiveness. In view of the increasing shortage of skilled workers in nursing, the constant workload, the emotional strain and the consideration of different needs of generations, employee retention represents a central challenge that is increasingly becoming the focus of hospitals' management strategies. This master's thesis is dedicated in detail to the approaches and strategies for employee retention in the nursing sector in hospitals. Key factors were identified through a systematic literature search and expert interviews. The empirical results largely confirm the theoretical assumptions about employee satisfaction and retention in the nursing sector. Particular focuses in practice are flexible rostering, direct appreciation, a strong team spirit and a supportive leadership culture. The aim of this work is to use these findings to develop practice-oriented recommendations for hospitals that meet both the individual needs of nursing staff and the organizational requirements in order to ensure sustainable and effective employee retention.
