In many companies, adherence to and documentation of business processes are often inconsistent and error-prone. This inconsistency results in inefficient workflows and poor process control. These deficiencies frequently stem from the manual maintenance of process models and documentation, leading to high error rates and outdated processes. The lack of a holistic view of processes often makes interactions and synergies unrecognizable, complicating the understanding and management of processes. Additionally, the vast selection of available tools presents companies with the challenge of choosing the most suitable tool that meets specific requirements. Database-based process management tools offer a solution by enabling extensive data collection and analysis, thereby significantly improving efficiency and accuracy in process management. The bachelor thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part covers the fundamentals of process management, explaining essential concepts such as the definition and visualization of business processes, process automation, process mining, and process controlling. The second part focuses on database-based process management tools. Here, the specific requirements for these tools and their functions are examined in detail. Methodologically, the thesis is based on a qualitative literature review, analyzing relevant peer-reviewed reports, textbooks, and studies to gain well-founded insights into the requirements and functions of these tools. The study shows that database-based process management tools offer a wide range of functions beyond simple visualizations. Key functions include process modeling, simulation, business process automation, workflow management, documentation, process improvement, the use of artificial intelligence, and process monitoring. These functions enable in-depth analysis and continuous improvement of business processes, contributing to increased agility, efficiency, and customer orientation within a company. Additionally, various providers of such tools, such as BOC Group, IBM, and SAP Signavio, were compared, each offering different functionalities. The thesis emphasizes the importance of professional requirements management to ensure that the chosen tool meets the current and future needs of the company and remains scalable. In summary, the bachelor thesis demonstrates that database-based process management tools play a crucial role in the optimization and digitalization of business processes. They help companies design processes more efficiently and continuously improve them, ultimately enhancing competitiveness and enabling well-informed decision-making.
