    Abstract

The Baby-Boomer generation is retiring. A huge outcry follows. The demographically driven shortage of skilled workers, which has long been a feature of literature and research, is becoming increasingly tangible. Companies and the labor market are feeling this change and must act in the coming years. Young skilled workers cannot fully fill this gap. So, how can this untapped potential of older workers be reactivated? How can the knowledge of these longserving skilled workers be secured or passed on? What do these older workers need to continue working for companies beyond retirement? The aim of this work is to find answers to these questions and to define recommendations for policy action so that it becomes easier for companies to access precisely this “older workforce potential” The subsequent analysis combines a sound theoretical foundation, supplemented by expert interviews with politicians in Upper Austria and at the federal level. This provides a solid basis for the current situation. A quantitative online survey surveyed entrepreneurs in two Upper Austrian districts on the topic of "older labor force potential." The resulting findings serve as recommendations for policymakers. This master's thesis aims to define a policy vision that can be directly fed back to policymakers, thus serving as a solid basis for further concrete implementation.
