Abstract

The paper describes the design and implementation of the Visual Model Editor (VME), which aims to provide users with an easy to use and customizable but yet semantically powerful tool for collaborative modeling in diverse domains of interest. The VME allows the creation, use and evolution of visual models and their underlying languages. A short overview of the target Visual Modeling Languages is presented so as to identify common characteristics in order to facilitate the modelling. An ontology design, software architecture and tool implementation are discussed. Finally, the results of a field trials with the VME prototype as well as future plans are briefly outlined.
