Abstract
This work deals with the effect of conventional hardening on the mechanical properties hardness and toughness of the engineering steels 42CrMo4, 51CrV4, 55Cr3 and 100Cr6. To determine this property relationship, reduced thickness ISO-V specimens as well as micro-notched specimens were subjected to different heat treatment cycles. The samples were investigated by notched impact test and hardness measurements. To deepen the validity of the results, additional fracture surface investigations on a scanning electron microscope, retained austenite measurements and metallographic investigation were carried out.
