Abstract
NASSI-SHNEIDERMAN DIAGRAMS ARE MODERN GRAPHICAL MEANS IN THE DESIGN AND DOCUMENTATION OF PROGRAMS. THEY ARE A SUBSTITUTE FOR FLOWCHARTS AND ENFORCE GOTO-FREE PROGRAMMING ALLOWING ONLY THE USE OF A FEW PROVEN CONTROL STRUCTURES. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE STRUCTURE AND APPLICATION OF A SOFTWARE TOOL FOR PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT BY STEPWISE REFINEMENT AND DOCUMENTATION OF PROGRAMS BY SO-CALLED NASSI-SNEIDERMAN DIAGRAMS. BASED ON THE REQUIREMENTS OF SUCH A SOFTWARE TOOL, A SIMPLE LANGUAGE FOR PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT IS DEFINED AND THE STRUCTURE OFA SOFTWARE PRODUCT FOR SUPPORTING PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND DOCUMENTATION ON EACH LEVEL OF ABSTRACTION IN TOPDOWN PROGRAMMING IS PRESENTED. AFTER THE DESCRIPTION OF THE DIAGRAM GENERATOR'S COMPONENTS THE PRACTICABILITY OF THIS SOFTWARE TOOL IS DEMONSTRATED BY AN EXAMPLE. IN GERMAN.
