Abstract
Resilience is often declared to be a future competence - especially in uncertain times. The complexity of the environments in which we live and work today requires employees to be able to deal flexibly with uncertain situations and to make decisions in an ambivalent environment. In studies focusing on changes during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, psychological stress is particularly evident in young people. Therefore, in this paper and in the empirical study conducted, special attention is paid to the target group of 14 to 24-year-olds. Individual resilience was measured, and different influencing factors were analyzed. In terms of promoting health, the relationship between resilience and the perception of one's own mental and physical health is also examined. Within the framework of the empirical study, 1004 people (pupils, apprentices, students and employed people) were interviewed. For data collection a questionnaire based on the measuring instruments RS-13 (Resilience Scale 13) and COPSOQ (Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire) was used. The analysis of the data shows that in the studied target group apprentices had the lowest resilience levels (66.7) and young people in employment had significantly higher values (71.1). The results confirm a significant positive relationship between resilience and the assessment of one's own health status (r=.358; p>.001; N=1004) and a negative relationship between resilience and perceived psychological stress (r=-312; p<.001; N=1004). In summary, having a job has a positive effect on the development of resilience in the studied target group of 14-24-year-olds. Since resilience also influences the perception of mental and physical stress, it is worthwhile for organizations to invest in strengthening the resilience of their employees and to contribute to sustainable human resource management.
