Abstract

Tools für forgings are currently manufactured by maching for the most part. In contrast, rapid tooling - the generative production of tools - could be used for Special requierements for tool geomtery in the future. This article presents first results of manufacturing of forging dies with a selective laser melting process in vew of the wear behaviour of the dies. Forging dies are subject to high mechanical, thermal as well as tribological and chemical strains during forming. Therefore the development has to Focus on an optimisation of the tool life. Selective laser melting offers the possibility to integrate contor-close cooling or temperature control channels in high-temperature srtressed Areas of forging Tools, wich can reduce this wear, while conventional tool production, i.e. mechanical processing., is streching ist Limits considering the complexity of contour-close channels.
