Abstract

There are few reference tools that are truly tailor-made for special language translators' needs. One objective of my doctoral thesis project is to develop a model of the ideal translation-oriented special language dictionary. In the present paper, I aim to give a state-of-the-art overview of those six postulates (out of fifteen in total) that deal with the presentation and linking of contents in this kind of reference tool. Derived both from scholarly literature on the practice of special language translation and from this practice itself, the six postulates represent but one part of the numerous and complex real-life needs of professional translators.
