Abstract

In case of preloaded jointed structures, both, the result quality of the overall vibrations and of the local stress distribution inside the joints may depend on an accurate consideration of the nonlinear contact and friction forces between the contact surfaces. In this paper the adaption of a trial vector derivative based method to preloaded bolted joints is presented. Two advantages of this method can be reported: First, a fast convergence with respect to the number of additional joint modes, and second, reduced computational cost for the joint mode generation. The potential of the method is demonstrated using a bolted piston rod bearing cap.
