Abstract

This work presents results of a research project which aims to establish RF magnetron sputtering for the antibacterial functionalization of plastic surfaces. In this project a large number of different polymers (e.g. PS, PE, PA6, PP, ABS, PLA) were coated with a thin film of the following metals: Zn, Ag, Cu, Mo, W, etc. The according biocidal effect is evaluated afterwards by microbiological analysis. Additionally, the resulting physical surface properties are characterized by Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS).
