Abstract
It is often assumed - and current reports from research and industry confirm this assumption - that a prototyping-oriented development methodology can ameliorate some of the weaknesses of the life cycle-oriented development approach. Specialists have not arrived at a consensus on what methods and tools are necessary for supporting prototyping-oriented software development. Based on the results of a several year long research project, this paper explains the autors concept of prototyping in the area of software development and what tools are necessary to support it.
