Abstract

The introduction of vehicles and infrastructure connectivity enables new possibilities in vehicle and road safety. The project COPE (Collective Perception) strives to evaluate the potential from connecting vehicles with each other and with the infrastructure for the improved avoidance of collisions and dangerous situations with vulnerable road users at urban intersections with smart traffic lights. This article presents the approach in the project and motivates it by the specific challenges of the given problem.
