Abstract
At the moment in Austria some new developed ITS-services are presented to the public in open-beta test environments like the advanced traveller information system "Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (VAO)". These services are mostly focused on passenger's needs. A survey was conducted to raise potential use cases based on ITS-applications and current traffic information for freight applications. A second research question dealt with the consignor, consignee and logistics service provider awareness of these new opportunities and their requirements on such innovative systems. The results show that they do not recognise these potentials in its entirety. Another finding of the expert interviews was that in many cases the stakeholders in the transport chain do not look beyond borders and keep focused on their own business. Therefore collaborations pursuing the same common purpose of reducing costs and downtimes, increasing flexibility and efficiency in transport handling are curiously not common objectives.
