Abstract

This paper focuses on the first research results in the field of occupant satisfaction. As a first step the research, which is based on the project MOFNUG („MOdularer Fragebogen für die NUtzerzufriedenheit in Gebäuden“ - Modular questionnaire for the user satisfaction in buildings) in cooperation with four Universities of Applied Sciences, thermal comfort is considered theoretically and practically by measurements, user surveys and building simulations. Thermal comfort is mainly a subjective perception, which is determined by individual and climatically cause factors. For evaluation several approaches exist, e.g. the heat balance model (PMV) by P.O. Fanger or the SET-model, which is mainly used in the ASHRAE programs. In the building simulation program TRNSYS Fanger’s approach is used, which evaluates the operative temperature of a room, Predicted Mean Vote (PMV), Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied (PPD) as well as asymmetries of radiation fields. Due to error sus-ceptibilities the approach came increasingly into criticism. The challenge of a comparison with user surveys resides i.a. in the exact definition of clothing factors and activity, which can lead to deviations. Psychological factors, as mood or low options for influencing the indoor climate, cannot be displayed in a building simulation as well. The solely consideration of the heat balance approach is limited and merely as a tendency applicable and has to be holistically analysed.
