Abstract
The following paper describes a possible way for the development of an assessment to classify business and industrial sites within the aspect of sustainability. Initially, a brief overview about the current status of the research in the field of sustainability is given. In transition to the Austrian sustainability dimensions, issue-relevant contents, with regard to this paper, will be carved out and applied. The significant aims of this paper are the design of an appropriate definition for “sustainable business and industrial site” and a matrix for location factors which have an influence on sustainability. Furthermore, an outlook to a planning system, which automatically executes analyses and evaluations of business and industrial sites within the aspect of sustainability, will be given. It is contemplated that the analyses of this planning system will be measure by the means of a geographical information system.
