Abstract

This article explores the transformative potential of learning factories in mechatronic systems development through the LEONARDO project. By fostering collaboration between universities, commercial companies, and industry associations, the project bridges the gap between theory and practice, supporting digital transformation in higher education. The LEONARDO project introduces innovative teaching methods and develops the Learning and Experimenting open-Access Factory, later in the document referred to as LEAF, to teach Industry 5.0 concepts. This hands-on approach enhances student engagement, creativity, and collaboration, preparing them for real-world challenges. The article discusses the implementation of the mentioned approach, its benefits for students, universities, and industry, and addresses skills gaps.
