Abstract

With this investment, an outdated industrial complex has been converted into a high-tech production plant. The new hot rolling mill now competes with Western European plants about the leading position. At the inauguration ceremony, Gregor Münstermann, CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland commented that this investment has made the plant in Cracow one of the leading technological plants attracting even the most demanding customers from the growing industrial sectors. ArcelorMittal now has an outstanding plant which will help to supply a wide range of hot rolled products to its own downstream lines and to customers in Poland and related markets. The start-up performance of the mill exceeded the target figures. This will further improve the payback of the investment. The mill is currently in the final optimization stage, while a wide production mix in terms of steel grades and dimension is already being rolled. Plannings for the capacity increase to the targeted final capacity of 4.8 million t are already being made.
