Abstract
As universities are knowledge-based organizations, knowledge management in universities may not be a very new thing. Nevertheless, while universities offer study programs and consulting services concerning knowledge management they rarely implement it in their own organization. This paper describes a needs analysis in a university and the initial phase of a knowledge management project. The project aims for a community-oriented solution where social software is used to facilitate communicating knowledge across faculties. All stakeholder groups are involved in knowledge exchange – lecturers, researchers, administration and management staff, reflecting daily practices.
