Clinical information systems are often grown and isolated applications with insufficient technical and semantical interoperability. Missing standardized interfaces of information systems and interruptions in the clinical workflow lead to inefficient treatment and care of the patient. These factors cause unmanageable and increasing costs in health care. The international initiative "Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise" (IHE) pursues the goal to improve the exchange of information with a consistent deffinition of clinical use cases utilizing established standards. This thesis presents an approach to analyze and visualize IHE-based cli- nical transactions and workflows. Traceable, transparent clinical transactions enable healthcare providers to monitor, analyze and optimize clinical processes and make a contribution to an increasing quality of health services. A prototypical implementation demonstrates accesses to patients’ health information by physicians - a possible functionality of a personal health record.
