Abstract
The following article describes the almost 10 years’ ongoing development of Linz, a vibrant city of about 214,000 inhabitants in 2025, situated between Vienna and Salzburg on the Danube river. The heart and centre of the transformation is the Innovationshauptplatz. A place where innovation, digital and social entrepreneurship, as well as new ideas for an open and participatory city are more than welcome. This article showcases the early beginnings and motives of the political and administrative decision makers as well the organisational unit, the strategic approach and the remarkable outcomes. Meanwhile the Innovationshauptplatz is locally, regionally, nationally and internationally recognised as a fixed hub and awarded several prizes.
