Automation is known as using technology for recurring work that was done by people previously. This article broadens the understanding in the light of Industry 4.0. By using criteria of a readiness model, it is shown that future developments will focus more on smarter solutions which include responsiveness, machine learning and cooperation with other systems and human beings. As a result, customer needs will be fulfilled in a better way.
