Impact Assessment Model for Digital Transformation in Hospitals

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

Background: The socio-cosmos of hospitals is increasingly under pressure to be economically efficient and to justify its existence. It is essential to initiate, implement, and evaluate changes using an adapted logic model. Objectives: The Logic Model supports and implements a qualified impact assessment of digital transformation in hospitals. Methods: A mixed-methods approach consisting of a semi-structured literature review, an online survey of managers and decision-makers in Austrian hospitals (6/2022, N=374, n=49, rr=13.1%) and two expert workshops (11/2023, n=11; 5/2024, n=12) was conducted. Results: An average level of digital maturity was identified in Austrian hospitals. Furthermore, a logic model for analyzing the impact of digital transformation in Austrian hospitals was developed. Based on this, four exemplary impact chains of digital transformation in hospitals were created. Conclusion: Within the framework of the impact analysis of digital transformation in hospitals, the impact dialogue is of particular importance.
