Abstract
This paper explores the different usages of various storytelling techniques between Western animated series and Japanese anime. It conducts an in-depth analysis of the Japanese anime series Violet Evergarden. This case study is used to identify storytelling tools, such as flashbacks, that are used to combine episodic story arcs with the main narrative that spans over multiple episodes throughout the season.
